Though I live in Texas now, I'm originally from California. Grandpa Dykstra came over from the Netherlands before World War II; his brothers came over after - save for one who is still there. The whole clan had a family reunion in Santa Barbara.
It had been ten years since the last one - that one had been in Solvang - and so it was time for another.
It was a lot a fun. Great weather and location, and seeing cousins that I hadn't seen in years - it was great. We are all now scattered all over the country, and a few are still in Europe, so we don't get to see each other as much as we'd like.
The whole thing was a wonderful series of events. On the first night we had an evening reception at the Montecito Country Club, and then a picnic lunch the next day at the beach front. That evening there was a formal dinner at the Yacht Club. ( It helped that the food was good, too. :) )
All in all pretty cool, though much too short.
Susie and I capped off the weekend by sending the kids ahead with grandma. We stayed at an LAX hotel for the night, and headed for Houston the next day.
